He could have been talking about TechnoSphere

Whilst doing some “housekeeping” of my development environment I came a across an old link to a Ted Talk by Nicolas Perony.
His talk “studies how individual animals — be they Scottish Terriers, bats or meerkats — follow simple rules that, collectively, create larger patterns of behavior. And how this complexity born of simplicity can help them adapt to new circumstances, as they arise.”

It was certainly worth another viewing, and reminds me of how the TechnoSphere ALife engine is built with some simple rules which allow the creatures at times to exhibit what seems like complex behavior.
